Helen Savaki

Author

Helen Savaki is Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Crete and a neuroscientist specializing in brain function. She trained for a decade at leading institutions including Columbia University, the NIH, the University of Glasgow, and the Collège de France, supported by scholarships. Her research, published in Science, Nature, and other top journals, has earned over 20 international grants and 4,000 citations.


Beyond science, she is active in public affairs: a founding member of the International Committee on German Debts to Greece and a member of national councils in Greece and Canada. She has produced educational videos, written articles, and spoken widely about Germany’s WWII debts to Greece.


She is the author of several books, including Our Parallel Selves and the Silent Right Hespherium (1989), German Crimes and Germany’s Debts to Greece (2024), and The West and the East of the East (2024).
